How this study works

Epigenetics is the study of how behavior and environment can affect the way genes work. Unlike traditional genetics, which focuses on the sequence of letters that comprise DNA, epigenetics is a newer field dedicated to understanding the processes that turn certain genes on and off. If you think of the DNA sequence as an instruction manual for the body, then epigenetics are like penciled-in notes that indicate which parts to read closely and which to ignore.

Our study examines this data across thousands of participating dogs, and we’ll use the results to develop health metrics and ultimately medicines intended to help dogs live longer, healthier lives.

While the DNA collection portion of our study is now fully subscribed, it’s not too late to play an important role.

Enroll your dog today to participate in the interactive community science portion of our study. We’ll ask you to complete a series of surveys, photo challenges, and other activities that tell us more about your dog’s general health, environment, and lifestyle. As the study continues, we’ll share what we’ve learned about dogs like yours.
