Loyal Internship Program
Full Time | San Francisco , Remote
Who we are
Loyal is an early stage company developing drugs to extend dog lifespan. We view aging as a disease that may be slowed and improved with medicine. Loyal is well funded by top venture capitalists and angel investors.
Loyal is hiring interns for Summer 2021! You will join one of six Loyal teams (Animal Health R&D, Project Management, Computational Biology, Clinical Operations, Consumer) to help us develop the first aging drugs. This is a full-time, paid internship for 10 weeks.
Loyal is founded and led by a first-gen, female CEO – we encourage and look forward to diverse applicants.
Why you might be excited to work with us
We’re helping dogs live longer. If moonshot missions and dog longevity sound exciting, join us! Click here to learn more about our mission.
Loyal is an early stage company, which means there are no stringent hierarchies, silos or bureaucracy. Everyone (interns especially!) has ample opportunity to learn from and influence many aspects of the company.
There’s lots of opportunity for growth, mentorship, and learning about building biotech companies.
We’re a fast-paced, early stage startup which means you will probably wear multiple hats on the job.
What you’ll do
Based on your interests and experience, you will be matched with one of our teams to work and learn from. We are an early-stage, fast moving startup which means there’s flexibility with the specific tasks you’ll be doing. While this isn’t an exhaustive list, here are some things you might work on.
Animal Health R&D
Our Animal Health R&D team identifies drugs that may extend dog lifespan and healthspan. You will help our team of basic scientists and veterinary researchers with projects on longevity biomarkers, due diligence on drug candidates, identification of new drug targets, and translational aging studies. Specific tasks include:
Deep dive on drug targets and compounds of interest
Opportunities to identify novel-use cases of longevity promoting targets and compounds
Literature research on longevity science and mechanisms of aging.
Perform, summarize, and communicate reviews of biomedical and veterinary research literature on specific translational aging biology areas of interest* (*NOTE: This specific role in Animal Health R&D is reserved for current veterinary students in an AVMA-accredited veterinary college).
Our Comp Bio team is building an aging biomarker network that predicts age and aging-related diseases and analyzes data structures for our clinical studies. As part of our team, you will work under our Head of Quantitative Research & Bioinformatics to:
Perform statistical analysis and data mining of our clinical studies
Assist development of algorithms to quantify aging
Assist with due diligence for state-of-the-art machine learning techniques
Build web-based backend data management flows
Our ClinOps team designs and runs canine clinical trials to validate drugs to extend lifespan and healthspan. You will help run dog/owner studies as we elucidate dog aging in the field. Your job will involve:
Coordinate with Clinical Research Associate (CRA) or Clinical Trial Manager (CTM) for site management, includes sending requests, questions, or updates to sites
Facilitate day-to-day operation of our dog aging field studies
Our Project Management team is in charge of getting FDA-approval for Loyal’s pipeline aging drugs. This includes preparation of regulatory documents and mapping out the product path to market. You can expect to:
Help develop tools and trackers to manage projects and the portfolio
Assist with preparation of regulatory plans and documents
Help build timelines + organize drug pipeline projects
Track and organize key decisions in drug manufacturing
As consumer intern, you will help us build community for our Loyal Pack and support consumer & market research efforts. There is also potential for brand and content creation depending on relevant experience and skills (i.e. digital design, social media content). Your job will involve:
Running social media ads and polls
Market/product research on pup parents
Triaging emails from pup parents in our studies
Help execute plans for Loyal Pack engagement
